The Importance of School Attendance Before Winter Break
Dear Cardinal Families,
As we approach the festive holiday season, we want to emphasize how vital it is for students to be present and engaged in the three weeks leading up to winter break. These weeks are filled with important learning activities, projects, and opportunities for your child to build their knowledge and skills.
Every school day counts. Regular attendance not only helps students stay on track academically but also ensures they don’t miss out on collaborative classroom experiences and social connections that contribute to their growth. Missing even a few days can make it harder for your child to keep up and fully participate in lessons designed to prepare them for the upcoming semester.
We understand that this time of year can be busy with family commitments and travel plans. If you anticipate any absences, please inform your child’s teacher or the school office as soon as possible so we can work with you to support your student’s learning.
Thank you for your partnership in making every day count for our students. Together, we can ensure they end the year strong and ready for what’s ahead.

Our 33rd Annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner is being held today at 12:30 PM in the Lawson High School Commons.
Join us for a Thanksgiving meal, followed by a performance by our Southwest Singers.

The Cross Country teams battled through harsh conditions yesterday - dealing with rain, wind, and muddy course conditions at the state meet in Columbia. There were 164 runners in the girls division and 163 runners in the boys division.
Jocelyn Calvert medaled with an 11th place finish in a time of 20:23. Emily Whitworth ran hard and finished 128th (23:48.)
Miles Hochwender ran a PR (18:34)and finished 77th. Owen Weatherspoon finished 83rd (18:38) and Hunter Thompson finished 136th (19:48.)

The Cardinals traveled to Lathrop tonight and come away with a big win, 49-0. Go Cardinals!
Last night the volleyball team competed in a district semifinal matchup with Oak Grove. The girls battled all night long but ultimately fell short, 1-3. The team finished the season with a 22-8-1 record and as undefeated Conference Champions. Congratulations on a great season!
Football Week 9 Teacher/Staff Member Of The Week
The Lawson Football program is happy to announce this week's teacher/staff member of the week. This week, the seniors would like to recognize Mr. Joe Koeberl. Mr. Koeberl is the 8th Grade History teacher at Lawson Middle School. Mr. Koeberl does a great job keeping his students engaged in History class. The seniors appreciate his hard work and dedication in the classroom. Mr. Koeberl also does an amazing job of announcing a variety of sporting events for the Lawson School District. Lawson Cardinal Stadium Complex Closed - BEGINNING 10/22
Our athletic stadium complex, including the football field, track, and softball field, will be closed to all foot traffic beginning on the morning of Tuesday, October 22. This is due to the resealing and painting of the track and runways. The stadium will remain closed through the process, with an anticipated reopening date of November 12.
The project is being completed as part of the April 2024 Bond - Scope of Work.

This week, the seniors would like to recognize Mrs. Deana Gobble! Mrs. Gobble is a Kindergarten teacher at Southwest Elementary. She has been teaching kindergarten at Southwest for 27 years. This is her 36th year of teaching in the Lawson School District. Throughout her tenure, Mrs. Gobble has made a tremendous impact on countless students! Your Cardinals 2024 Softball season ends in a close one vs. Savannah in the Semi-Final Round of the District Tournament. Congratulations on a fantastic season. #WeAreLawson
Last night the volleyball program participated in the annual Pink Out event against Lathrop High School. Thank you to all that attended and helped show support for our honoree, Kayle Rice.
C-Team started the evening, battling through a tough match but ultimately fell 1-2. JV then fought hard for a 2-0 win. Varsity ended the night on a high note with a 3-1 victory.

The Lawson Football program is happy to announce the week 7 Teacher/Staff member of the week. This week, the seniors chose Mrs. Lisa Baney! Mrs. Baney is the ISS and Launch instructor at Lawson High School. According to the seniors, Mrs. Baney is very good at engaging with and supporting the students at Lawson High School. Volleyball travelled to East Buchanan tonight and left with a huge conference win, with a 3-0 sweep! JV also came away with a 2-1 victory. Go Cards!
The Cardinals put together four solid quarters for a 34-15 conference win over West Platte.
Football Week 6 Teacher/Staff Member of the Week
The week 6 Teacher/Staff member of the week is Mr. Wes Florea! Coach Florea is the Physical Education teacher at Southwest Elementary. The seniors have great memories of P.E. while at Southwest! Coach Florea made a huge impact on them while they were in Elementary school, and he continues to impact many of the seniors as a coach. Thank you, Coach Florea, for all you do for students!

Varsity Softball hosted the Plattsburg Tigers tonight for what became a thrilling KCI contest. These teams went back and forth until the Cardinals won 8-7 in the bottom of the 9th inning.
JV continued the winning ways by winning 7-1.
