Public Participation Guidelines

Education is a community effort, and we appreciate your interest in educating Lawson's future and taking the time to participate in our district school board meeting. Toward the beginning of our meeting, you will note a time allotted for public comment on the agenda. If you would like to speak to the board about a specific item on today's agenda, please complete the public comment form provided by the Board Secretary at the back of the boardroom. When public comment begins, you will be called on in the order in which you signed up. Please introduce yourself to the board and kindly make your remarks. You will be given up to 5 minutes to address the board. (The Board has established a 30-minute time limit for the public comment period)

Please note that if if a member of the public wishes to have an item placed on the agenda of a regular Board meeting, he or she may make a written request to the Superintendent after going through the appropriate process for a complaint or concern pursuant to District rules. See District Policy C-120-P regarding Complaints or Concerns. The written request must be received at least five (5) business days prior to the Board meeting and must describe the items to be discussed with reasonable particularity. The item may then be placed on the agenda as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and the Board President. The Board President will refuse to allow discussion of an issue that has not gone through the appropriate process as a complaint or concern pursuant to District rules. The item will be placed on the agenda if it directly relates to the governance or operation of the District. The District may refuse to place an item on the agenda if the Board has heard an identical or substantially similar issue in the previous 3 calendar months or if the resident previously violated District rules regarding conduct at meetings or on school property. The District may delay hearing an agenda item if more than 3 resident-initiated agenda items are schedule for the same meeting. If the agenda item is delayed, the resident may communicate to the Board as outlined in the first paragraph of this section about the agenda item.
