Celebrations: April Board Spotlights: The board recognized Jeff Terrill and Jason Thummel for serving the district during their term on the Lawson R-XIV School Board from 2020-2023. Their dedication and service are much appreciated!

The next board spotlight was to recognize Mr. Roger Schmitz, former Lawson Superintendent, who has been awarded the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) Northwest Emeritus Award. In selecting the Emeritus honorees, special attention is given to the length of administrative service, participation in MASA, significant accomplishments as an active member, and continued interest in public education. Roger fits each of these categories, and his recognition is well-deserved by his colleagues throughout Missouri.

Next, Lawson Middle School student Barrett Krieger was recognized for receiving the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Excellence Award for his essay about Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. Students were asked to write an essay about a famous person who inspired others.

Finally, the board recognized high school teacher Mrs. Karen Johnson for being named the Missouri Interscholastic Journalism Association (MIJA) Journalism Teacher of the Year Award. She was nominated by a former student during her time with the Kearney School District. Mrs. Johnson rejoined Lawson High School in the fall of 2022 and teaches English and Journalism courses, and is the Lawson Landriac sponsor.

Congratulations to all!
