Candidate Filing Dates
Any person wishing to file for the Lawson R-XIV School District Board of Education may do so in the Lawson School District's Administrative Office, 307 W. Moss, Lawson, MO 64062. Filing will be held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, through Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025.
Filing will begin on December 9, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. and continue during the district's regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Filing will also not occur on the following holidays and breaks when the school district's administrative office is closed: December 22, 2025, through December 29, 2025. The district administrative office will be open from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Filing will end on December 30, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. [Candidates filing will be listed on the ballot in the order specified in G-235-P.]
No filings will be accepted when the office is closed due to inclement weather.
An election for three seats on the board will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The seats carry a three-year term.
Any person interested in serving on the Lawson R-XIV School Board of Education will meet the following requirements:
Be citizens of the United States;
Be a resident taxpayer of the District;
Have resided within the District for the one year immediately preceding their election;
Be at least 24 years of age;
Not be delinquent in state income, or personal property tax or real property on their residence. If the Board member is a corporate officer of a fee office, that office can’t be delinquent on any state tax;
Not have been found guilty of or pled guilty to a felony under the federal laws of the United States of America, to a felony under Missouri law, or to an offense committed in another state which would be considered a felony in Missouri;
Not have been found guilty of or pled guilty for the offense of assault in the first or second degree under section 565.050 or 565.052 or of the offense of harassment in the first or second degree under section 565.090 or 565.091 where such assault or harassment occurred on school district grounds;
Not be a registered sex offender; and
Be in compliance with all Missouri Ethics Commission requirements.

Under the provisions of Missouri Statute Section 115.124, if the number of candidates who file is equal to the number of positions to be filled by the election (three), no election will be held. However, if the number of candidates filing exceeds the number of positions, the annual school board election will be held on April 4, 2023. Per Lawson District Policy G-235-P, the names of qualified candidates shall be placed on the ballot in order of filing, except that for candidates who file a declaration of candidacy prior to 5:00 p.m. on the first day of filing, the District shall determine by random drawing the order in which such candidates’ names shall appear on the ballot. Each candidate filing on the first day shall draw a number at random at the time of filing. The District shall record the number drawn with the candidate’s declaration of candidacy. The names of candidates filing on the first day of filing shall be listed in ascending order of the numbers so drawn and ahead of the names of candidates filing on a later date.
