Congratulations to our Varsity Boys Basketball team as they won the Class 3 District 16 Championship game today over Lathrop, 66-59, at Trenton High School.

It was a tightly contested game in which the Cardinals trailed the Mules 16-15, after the first quarter and found themselves down 32-29 going into halftime. As was the case during Thursday's District semifinal game, the Cardinals put together a great third quarter, outscoring Lathrop, 24-13, to take a 53-45 lead heading into the 4th quarter. The Mules battled back and narrowed the margin to two points, 61-59, late in the 4th quarter, but the Cardinals scored the final 5 points of the game on the free throw line to secure the victory.

Andrew Phipps led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points. Three other Cardinals finished in double figures as Isaac Willoughby tallied 16 points, Brogan Crawford added 13 points and Josh Ramsey added 12 points.

With the win, the Cardinals will now host the Class 3 State Sectional game on Tuesday (2/27/24) against East Buchanan at 6:00 PM.
