Lawson High School Students Perform with Northwest District Choir
Eight Lawson High School students showcased their musical talents at the Northwest District All-District Choir, held at Cameron High School. The choir was under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Sengin, Missouri Professor of Choral Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, and accompanied by Lorrie Dixon, collaborative pianist for Missouri Western State University.
Students earned their positions in the prestigious ensemble through a competitive audition process in September, which required them to perform a solo and complete a sight-reading assessment before a panel of judges. Their dedication culminated in a powerful performance that captivated a packed audience.
Lawson High School junior Aleah Johnson was featured as a soloist during the choir’s moving performance of “Crowded Room.”
Following the district event, four Lawson students also auditioned for the Missouri All-State Choir, which will perform in January. Congratulations to senior Aleah Johnson on being selected for the Missouri All-State Choir for the second consecutive year. Aleah will be a member of the Alto section and will travel to Osage Beach on January 28 to rehearse under the direction of Dr. Edith Copley. The All-State Choir will perform at the conclusion of the 88th Annual MMEA In-Service Workshop/Conference at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31.
Only four students and two alternates are selected to represent each section from the Northwest District — a tremendous achievement.
Lawson High School congratulates the following students for their outstanding accomplishments and musical excellence:
Grayden Crawford, Destiny Dreesen, Aleah Johnson, Jasaan Johnson, Kailyn Johnson, Lindsay Jones, Allison Koeberl, and Joanna Mayne.
Congratulations to all of the students for their hard work and preparation for both the District and State auditions.
