Board Spotlight: School To Career & Cardinal Activities Media & Management
The Lawson R-XIV School District recently highlighted the continued growth of its Real World Learning (RWL) initiatives during the Board of Education meeting on April 15, 2026. A central focus of the presentation was the district’s commitment to preparing students for careers beyond graduation. School-to-career success was showcased through both the School-to-Career Transitions and Internship Program and the Cardinal Activities Media & Management program.
The School-to-Career program provides junior and senior students with structured opportunities to transition from high school to postsecondary education and the workforce. Throughout the program, students engage in career exploration, job shadowing, and, ultimately, job placement during their senior year, equipping them with practical skills and real-world insights.
Complementing this work, the Cardinal Activities Media & Management program expands student learning beyond the traditional classroom. Rooted in business and media management, the program offers students hands-on experiences in technical fields through Photography and Media Days. Students are challenged to perform in high-stakes, real-world environments, including:
Athletic Media Coverage: Capturing live action from the sidelines of football games
Event Coverage: Managing photography and media production for indoor sports and school activities.
Through these experiences, students develop professional portfolios while building technical proficiency in photography, media production, and event management, skills that are highly relevant in today’s workforce.
Together, these programs exemplify the district’s commitment to preparing students for success beyond graduation. By providing authentic, career-connected learning opportunities and access to professional tools and environments, Lawson ensures its graduates are well-equipped for both higher education and the demands of the modern workforce.
