Ride to Campus/Walk on Campus Procedure
Effective August 27, 2026
As part of the Lawson School District’s continued commitment to student safety, the district is implementing a Ride-to-Campus/Walk-on-Campus procedure for bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, and similar devices.
Building administrators have communicated and will continue to communicate with students regarding the appropriate areas for using these devices and expectations for their safe operation.
Students may ride bicycles and legally permitted devices to and from school. However, once they reach district property, students must:
Dismount before entering school grounds.
Walk the device on all district sidewalks, crosswalks, parking lots, driveways, playgrounds, athletic areas, and other pedestrian spaces.
Follow directions from school staff, event personnel, and crossing guards.
Park and secure the device in a designated bicycle or scooter parking area.
Keep the device outside district buildings unless permission is granted by an administrator.
Refrain from charging electric devices inside district buildings without prior administrative approval.
This procedure applies at all times, including:
Before, during, and after the regular school day.
During practices, rehearsals, meetings, clubs, and other student activities.
During athletic contests, performances, school events, and community activities held on district property.
On weekends, holidays, and other times, students are attending or participating in activities on district property.
Students may not ride bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, or similar devices on district property unless the activity is specifically authorized and supervised by district personnel.
Students who operate a device unsafely or fail to follow this procedure may lose the privilege of bringing it onto district property. A parent or guardian may also be required to retrieve the device.
Families are responsible for ensuring students follow all applicable traffic laws, wear appropriate safety equipment, and operate their devices safely while traveling to and from school. Please be aware that Missouri law may require a valid driver’s license to operate certain motorized devices on public streets and highways.
