Lawson School District Financial Outlook
Message 1: Our Financial Foundation
As your superintendent, I believe it is important to give our staff and community a clear understanding of Lawson’s financial position, how we've used district resources, and the challenges we must prepare for.
For decades, the Lawson School District has benefited from conservative, responsible financial planning. Decisions made by previous Boards of Education and district leaders created a strong foundation that has allowed Lawson to maintain financial stability while strategically improving facilities, programs, and student opportunities.
Building on that foundation, we have worked intentionally over the past five years to respond to changing needs of students, staff, and the community. This work has included strengthening academic programs, improving staff compensation, expanding real-world learning opportunities, supporting both our highest-achieving and most at-risk students, addressing deferred facility maintenance, and further strengthening district reserves.
Our community has also shown up time and again for its schools. That support shows up through the community’s willingness to invest in the district and through the families, alumni, and residents who rally behind our students at athletic events, theater productions, marching band performances, academic competitions, and many other activities.
Supporting students is part of the Lawson community's DNA and remains one of our greatest strengths.
Lawson remains financially stable. However, changing state funding and increasing operational costs require thoughtful planning today to protect that stability in the years ahead.
Over the next six weeks, I will share information about where district funding comes from, how resources have been invested, the financial pressures ahead, the purpose of reserves, and the priorities that will guide future decisions.
I remain confident that, working together, we can preserve the opportunities students rely on today while responsibly preparing for those who will follow.
